p2m berlin GmbH and its foreign branch, p2m Middle East, are the consulting engineers of the Berlinwasser Holding company which owns and operates the water supply and wastewater infrastructure of Germany’s capital Berlin through its sister company Berliner Wasserbetriebe.
As a public utility company, Berliner Wasserbetriebe, the holding company Berlinwasser Holding and p2m are fully state-owned.
p2m designs and executes water and wastewater projects worldwide for public and private clients and has recently been awarded a large contract in Bahrain.
The contract is a joint venture with KEO International Consultants to supervise the expansion of Tubli Wastewater Treatment Plant – with the construction awarded to a joint venture between contractors WTE, Tecton and Azmeel.
Since 2007, p2m has been active in Bahrain and at Tubli Water Pollution Control Centre (WPCC).
The first expansion plans were ready for tendering in October 2008, but could not be executed due to the budget crisis that same year.
p2m has designed and supervised several immediate and emergency short-term measures to improve the situation at Tubli WPCC and has been working on this expansion since 2012.
Work began with a new feasibility study to decide on the size and technologies to be used and this was followed by design and tender documents and finally the tendering itself.
The company is now looking forward to implementing the project over the next three years.
The expansion of Tubli WPCC will double its current capacity to ensure that all incoming wastewater is properly treated, allowing for full reuse of all treated sewage effluent in irrigation.
The sludge to energy component of the project will ensure state-of-the-art technology and will be implemented for green alternative power generation.
Aside from Tubli WPCC, p2m has worked on several other important infrastructure projects in Bahrain including the National Masterplan for Sanitary Engineering Services, Muharraq Sewage Treatment Plant and several deep gravity sanitary sewer projects.
The implementation of these sewer pipeline projects will provide sufficient sewer capacity for major areas of Bahrain, such as Muharraq, Juffair and Saar, to name a few. Once all proposed and planned measures are implemented, the sanitary sewerage condition of Bahrain will be vastly improved and increase the quality of life in the kingdom, for which p2m berlin will have contributed its expertise and knowledge.
