The 2018-19 Bahrain Karting Sprint Championship (BKSC) is all set to flag off today with the first round of the Bahrain Rotax Max Mojo Challenge (BRMMC).
All the action will be held along Bahrain International Karting Circuit’s (BIKC) world-renowned 1.414-kilometre Commission Internationale de Karting (CIK) Track.
The BRMMC will include the following non-gearbox classes: Micro (eight to 11 years old), Mini (10-13), Junior (12-15), Max (14 and above) and the Max-Masters (32 and above).
Around 30 drivers and three teams are expected to feature on the entry list for the round.
They will be racing in karts with sealed Rotax 125cc EVO engines, which must be checked and sealed by BIKC before being allowed to race. The tyres must be Mojo D2 tyres for the Micro and Mini classes; and Mojo D4 tyres for the Junior, Max and Max-Masters classes.
Today’s on-track action will kick start with a seven-minute free-practice at 3.40pm for the Micro and Mini classes. The Junior Max, Max and Max-Masters then go out for their own seven-minute practice at 3.52pm.
Qualifying for the Micro and Mini karters will then take place at 4.04pm, followed by qualifying for the Junior, Max and Max-Masters at 4.16pm.
A seven-lap pre-final for the Micro and Mini categories is then scheduled for 4.28pm; an 11-lap pre-final for the Junior class at 4.45pm, and an 11-lap pre-final for the Max and Max-Masters classes at 5.10pm.
That will set the stage for the finals. The nine-lap Micro-Mini final will be at 5.35pm, the 15-lap Junior at 5.55pm, and the 15-lap Max and Max-Masters final at 6.30pm.
This year’s BRMMC will crown two champions: the first for the driver and the other for the entrant/team.
The BKSC this season will consist of seven rounds. Following today’s season-opener, round two will be held on November 9, to be followed by round three on December 8, which will be the last of the calendar year.
Round four kicks off 2019 on January 4, and then round five takes place more than a month later on February 8. The penultimate round of the championship is then scheduled for March 15, paving the way for the season finale on April 5.
Aside from the BRMMC, the BKSC will also feature action in the Bahrain Sodi Sprint World Series at BIKC.
