BRITISH Club ‘A’, sponsored by Gulf Brands International, kicked off their title defence in the Bahrain Netball League with a hard-earned 19-13 victory over Bahrain Rugby Football Club (BRFC) ‘B’ last night, in a match played at the BRFC premises in Saar.
British Club ‘A’ got off to a good start and enjoyed a 5-2 lead at the end of the first quarter. But BRFC ‘B’ battled back in the second and tied the proceedings at 7-all by the half. In the third period, things stayed close and British Club ‘A’ managed to take a slim 14-13 lead heading into the last quarter, when they finally took control of the contest with five unanswered goals.
Wing Defence Charlotte Collinson was named the Player of the Match for British Club ‘A’, while Goal Attack Maisie Brandreth was the top performer for BRFC ‘B’.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Club ‘B’ and British Club ‘B’ battled to a 13-all deadlock in their match yesterday.
British Club ‘B’ had a narrow 11-9 lead after three quarters, but in the final canto Sri Lanka ‘B’ were able to level the proceedings and to force the stalemate. Goal Attack Sara Rahim was the Player of the Match for Sri Lanka Club ‘B’ while Centre Anne Marie was the best player for British Club ‘B’.
Elsewhere, Topshots defeated British Club ‘C’ 14-7, with Centre Debbie being named her team’s top player in the loss; and BRFC ‘A’ scored a dominant 35-17 win over Secure Services Sri Lanka, with Goal Keeper Charlotte Pilgrim and Centre Rasangika Herath being named the Players of the Match for their respective teams.
