Two Pakistani nationals are standing trial at the UAE Court of First Instance for dealing in counterfeit currency, Khaleej Times reported.
The defendants, aged 51 and 36, were caught on July 29 with €2.9 million in 500 fake bills at Dubai International Airport.
The Public Prosecution charged them with attempting to smuggle counterfeit currency.
An on-duty officer screened the luggage of the 51-year-old defendant and found the counterfeit banknotes.
However, he denied the money was his, claiming that the other defendant had handed it over to him prior to arriving at Dubai International Airport. The case has been adjourned till November 4.
