German ambassador back in Saudi Arabia

GDN Online Desk

German Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Joerg Ranau has returned to resume his diplomatic duties, Sabq reported.

In a press statement, he said he looked forward to strengthening bilateral relations and bolstering co-operation between the peoples of the two countries.

Riyadh authorities announced last Tuesday that Saudi Ambassador to Germany Prince Khalid bin Bandar has returned to Berlin, as well.

Last month a government spokesman said that Saudi Arabia was an important partner in the region that Germany wanted to co-operate with.

He added that the Saudi foreign minister had invited German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas to Riyadh.

Standing alongside his Saudi counterpart Adel Al Jubeir at the United Nations last month, Maas then spoke of “misunderstandings” that had undermined what were otherwise “strong and strategic ties” between the countries, saying “we sincerely regret this”.
