More than 1,000 people took part in a ‘Dandiya Nite’ organised by the Indian Ladies Association (ILA) at Crowne Plaza Convention Centre.
The event featured live music by DJ Nirmal, traditional ‘Garba Raas’ and a ‘Dandiya’ session to the tune of Bollywood beats. Prizes were awarded for best ethnic wear and to best dancer – male, female and child.
Special ‘dandiya’ sticks and diyas made by Sneha children were available as were pink ‘dandiya’ sticks in support of breast cancer awareness month.
‘Dandiya’ is a folk dance celebration from the Indian state of Gujarat and features men and women dressed in traditional attire using colourful sticks to dance.
