Abu Dhabi – An online learning platform targeting the Arab World has today been given the green light in the United Arab Emirates.
UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Dubai Ruler Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum launched the e-learning hub which will benefit more than 50 million Arab students across the world.
The Madrasa (www.madrasa.org) is an educational platform that provides 5,000 free Arabised videos in general science, math, biology, chemistry and physics to students from kindergarten to grade 12.
The Mohammed bin Rashid Arabic eLearning Project, considered the biggest in the Arab World, is the first outcome of the Translation Challenge that was announced last year, calling for researchers, and professionals in the Arab World to translate, design and produce 5,000 videos and 11 million words of educational content into Arabic.
The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI) also announced the 1000x1000 competition, which will give students the opportunity to win $1,000 by answering one question a day for 1,000 days. The competition will give away $1 million worth of awards.
Over the past year, over 52,000 volunteering teachers, engineers, researchers, university students, government employees, technicians and graphic designers across the Arab World applied to contribute to the platform in fields of translation, voiceover and video production, and publication.
