YOUSSEF Nabil from Egypt led eight players into the final round of Boys’ Singles Qualifying yesterday, in the 10th Bahrain ITF Juniors Championships at Bahrain Tennis Club (BTC) in Juffair.
The top seed booked his place after defeating Emirati Aman Anwar 6-0, 6-0. Nabil will look to continue his winning ways when he plays Archie Graham from Great Britain next, with the winner advancing to the Boys’ Singles Main Draw. Graham advanced following his own 6-0, 6-0 victory last night against Anshuman Sonawane from India.
Also moving forward to the last qualification phase were Oliver Richards from Great Britain, Zubin Omar from Bangladesh, Alexandre Ver Hulst from France, Harold Huens from Belgium, and Siddharth Jadli and Deepak Vayara from India. Each player registered important wins and they will all be vying for one of the three other slots in the Boys’ Singles Main Draw.
Richards is set to face Jadli, Omar will play Vayara and Ver Hulst battles Huens.
Their matches in the boys’ final qualifying round will all be held today along with those in Girls’ Singles Qualifying. Play is scheduled to get underway at 3pm. All are welcome to attend and cheer for their favourite players.
Amongst the girls, eight players will be battling for four places in their Main Draw. They include top seed Lea Rebreyend from France, Lia Mosimann from Switzerland, Andra Izabella Sirbu from Romania, Zaara Omar from the US, Riya Matharoo and Saniya Masand from India, and Sophie De Boer and Maryam Isa from hosts Bahrain.
Lea and Sophie go head to head in one qualifier, while Riya and Lia battle in another. In the other matches, Maryam and Saniya face off while Andra and Zaara play each other.
Action in the Main Draws gets underway tomorrow.
The 10th Bahrain ITF Juniors Championships 2018 is a prestigious under-18 competition that is a part of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Juniors Circuit. Players from 48 countries all across the globe are competing in the event.
It is being run for a landmark 10th time, and it is held under the patronage of Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa. It is supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs and is sponsored by Bapco and E K Kanoo.
