Bahrain’s Adam Batirov won the silver medal in men’s 70kg freestyle at the 2018 World Wrestling Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
It was Bahrain’s first silver medal at the Wrestling World Championships. Batirov’s historic run was stopped with a last-minute takedown by former world champion from Russia, Magomedrasul Gazimagomedov. Batirov had dominated until the final moments.
Batirov trains at the KHK Bahrain Gym founded by Supreme Council for Youth and Sports first deputy chairman and Bahrain Athletics Association president Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
Bahrain is set to host Brave International Combat Week 2018, the largest mixed martial arts event in Asia, from November 11 to 18 and Batirov’s victory comes as a morale booster for the KHK MMA Bahrain Fight Team who will represent the kingdom in the event.
