Kuwait City: A convicted Kuwaiti national and an Egyptian woman got married in a first in Kuwait, Al Qabas reported.
The inmates, who are serving jail terms, signed their marriage today morning at the palace of justice in the district of Ruqai.
The Ministry of Interior gave the go-ahead for the wedding ceremony, after obtaining a legal opinion and the approval of senior security officials.
The Kuwaiti, who is serving a five-year jail term, sent a request to the Interior Ministry Assistant Undersecretary seeking approval to marry the convicted Egyptian woman.
The police escorted the couple to the palace of justice to sign the marriage contract before taking them back to their respective prisons.
The Ministry of Interior will allow them to meet and consume their marriage under the “Family Home” project which allows inmates to have “private family reunions”.
