Cairo – Google today celebrated the 87th birthday anniversary of Egyptian actress Hend Rostom.
Born on the 12th of November 1931, Nariman Hussein Murad is more famously known by her stage name Hind Rostom.
Hend Rostom, one of the greatest icons of the golden era of the Egyptian cinema, earned her name “Marilyn Monroe of the East” for her physical appearance.
She passed away on the 8th of August 2011, leaving a prolific legacy which included more than 80 movies which marked the history of cinema in Egypt.
Born in Alexandria to an Egyptian-Circassian mother, Hend started her career at the age of 16 the film Azhar wa Ashwak (Flowers and Thorns).
Her first true success was in 1955 when the famous director Hassan Al-Imam offered her a role in Banat el Lail (Women of the Night).
He successful movies also include Ibn Hamidou in 1957, Youssef Chahine’s Bab El Hadid (Railway Station) with Farid Shawki in 1958, Salah Abu Seif's La Anam (Sleepless) with Faten Hamama, Omar Sharif, and Rushdy Abaza in 1958.
Dubbed as the queen of seduction in Egyptian cinema, the 'Marilyn Monroe of the East' retired in 1979, saying that would like to be remembered at the best of her prolific career.
