Tunis – The Tunisian cabinet has officially endorsed a draft law establishing a gender equality in inheritance.
Chaired by President Beji Caid Essebsi, the panel approved the bill and referred it to the parliament for further discussion and approval.
President Essebsi announced the move in August 2017 and set up the Individual Freedoms and Equality Committee in the same month to propose the draft law.
He said that the draft law complies with the Tunisian constitution, which states that Tunisian is a civil country “based on three elements: citizenship, will of the people and the supremacy of the law”.
