Ironman Bahrain kicks off

The Middle East Ironman 70.3 Championship Bahrain will kick off today in Bahrain Bay and run until Saturday.

It is being held under the patronage of HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister.

The official registration for the championship will be conducted today at the registration tents placed in Bahrain Bay.

Likewise, the official opening ceremony of the championship and the opening of the exhibition “expo” will get underway today.

At the venue in Bahrain Bay at 7pm, the official opening ceremony will be held under the patronage of HRH Prince Salman.

Participants and visitors have started arriving at Bahrain International Airport the past few days to attend the championship. More than 3,000 participants are expected in the event.

Members of the organising committee, Faaliyat Events Organising Company (main organiser) and volunteers were present at the venue of the event yesterday to ensure the readiness of the location to receive the participants, spectators and visitors today.

Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs representative, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman, and Bahrain Olympic Committee president, expressed his utmost thanks and appreciation to His Majesty King Hamad for his constant support to the sport of triathlon.

“This backing gives us a great motivation to produce our best in the coming period,” said Shaikh Nasser as he also praised the support of HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, Prime Minister, HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister.

The Middle East Ironman 70.3 Championship Bahrain has become one of the biggest international events to take place in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

Shaikh Nasser welcomed the participants in the competition.

Director of the Ironman 70.3 Middle East Championship Bahrain director Ahmed Al Hajj confirmed that the organising committee is ready to host the most anticipated event.

The other events held on the sidelines of the race are the triathlon races for children (IronKids) and girls (IronGirls) tomorrow.

Al Hajj praised Shaikh Nasser for constantly following up on the committee’s work, saying it will positively reflect on the huge development of triathlon in Bahrain.
