BAHRAIN Endurance 13 Team members and members of Royal Bahrain Team yesterday said they were confident of putting up a good show in the Middle East Ironman 70.3 Championship set for tomorrow.

Endurance 13 team members Terenzo Bozzone, Holly Lawrence, David Plese, Samira Al Bitar and Christian said at a press conference yesterday that they expected a fierce competition in the last international Ironman 70.3 competition of the year.

Meanwhile, members of the Royal Bahrain team - Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Shaikh Khalid bin Ali Al Khalifa, Ali Abdulaziz Janahi, Mohammed Isa Al Ghais and Hamad Al Muraisi - said they have been training hard since the last couple of months under the direct supervision and support of team leader Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, president of Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and president of Bahrain Olympic Committee.

“We have participated in a series of international championships and are confident of putting up our best show,” said a team member.

The Ironman event is being held under the patronage of HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister.

Shaikh Nasser expressed his gratitude and appreciation to HRH the Crown Prince for patronising the championship. He said the Crown Prince’s patronage reflected his support and concern about the Bahraini sports movement.

Shaikh Nasser added that the Middle East Ironman 70.3 Championship Bahrain, annually held in the Kingdom, has become a much anticipated sports event which attracts thousands of triathletes and sports enthusiasts from all over the world.

Shaikh Nasser said the children’s contests, IronKids and IronGirls, to be held today is part of the activities of the championship and is expected to attract more than a thousand boys and girls.

He also wished good luck to all participants from Bahrain and abroad.

At yesterday’s press conference, Amal Al Murbati, CEO of Faalyat, the organising company of the championship, said the constant support and directives of Shaikh Nasser is responsible for the event’s continuous success.

Attending the press conference included Marketing Head at Gulf Air Mohammed Jamsheer and Senior Director of Banking and Financial Department at Batelco Hussain Abdulmajeed.

Both officials expressed their delight to be part of such an international sports event. They praised Shaikh Nasser for his efforts to promote sports and youth activities in Bahrain.
