Muscat: The four main non-communicable diseases (NCDs) claim about 11 lives every day in Oman, according to the Ministry of Health.
Cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancers and chronic respiratory diseases are the leading causes of death around the world and Oman.
Undersecretary for Planning Affairs and chairman of the NCD Strategic Research Programme Dr Ali al Hinai said that 36 per cent of total deaths in Oman are caused by cardiovascular diseases, followed by cancer accounting for nine per cent of the total deaths.
Additionally, Dr Adhra al Mawali, director of Centre of Studies and Research and programme director of NCD Strategic Research Programme revealed that 12.3 per cent of Omanis have diabetes and 1,300 new cancer cases are diagnosed annually in Oman.
According to the World Health Organization’s report for 2018, NCDs caused the death of 41mn people around the world.
