RIFFA ‘A’ were yesterday crowned champions of the Women’s 3x3 Tournament, held yesterday as part of the Bahrain Basketball Association (BBA) All-Star Festival.
Riffa ‘A’ defeated sister-squad Riffa ‘B’ 10-5 in the final.
The winners included Hessa Al Jaber, Fatima Bushiri, Fatima Abdulredha and Hessa Ahmed, while the ‘B’ team comprised Aisha Salman, Nora Shaikh, Mariam Hassan and Mariam Al Kaabi.
A total of 26 teams took part in the event, which was played at Zain Basketball Arena in Um Al Hassam.
The men’s 3x3 competition was held late last night.
Meanwhile, also yesterday, seven players made it into the final round of the Three-Point Shootout. They are Hussain Shaker, Ahmed Hassan Aldurazi, Mohammed Kuwayed, Mohammed Hussain, Bader Abdulla Malabes, Ahmed Jamal and Hassan Gerashi.
They advanced from a field of 22 participants who opened the competition.
The final round is today, alongside a Skills Challenge, Slam Dunk contest and the main event of the festival, the All-Star Game.
In the Skills Challenge, a field of eight is set to take part, each representing a different club. Competing for national champions Manama is Mohammed Ameer. Baqer Al Aradi will take to the court for Muharraq, while Jassim Abul is competing for Al Ahli.
The rest of the field includes Hussain Salman for Al Hala, Abdulrahman Ghali for Riffa, Hussain Taqi for Sitra, Ahmed Salman for Isa Town and Qassim Hassan for Al Najma.
In this head-to-head competition, the first round will see Ameer take on Ghali, with the winner set to face the victor of the match-up between Hussain and Ahmed Salman. Abul and Al Aradi face off in the first round, with the winner then taking on the victor between Hassan and Taqi. The winning player of each of the two second round battles will then face off in the final.
The Slam Dunk contest is set to include five players, two of whom are playing as professionals for their respective clubs. They include American Marcel Jones of Al Ahli and Senegalese Mansour Kasse of Sitra.
The three other Bahraini participants include Ali Jassim from Riffa, Mohammed Juma’a from Muharraq and Ameer from Manama.
