Berlin: It's a heart-warming story which proves that humanity is not dead.
A Syrian refugee, living in Berlin, is feeding homeless people in the city every Saturday.
Alex Assali, has gone viral after someone shared it on their Facebook page.
Alex has been cooking big pots of food and serving them on stands throughout Berlin once a week.
He had arrived in Germany in Sept 2014 and now he feeds 100 people a week.
According to Buzzfeed, Alex says, "Usually some words they say make me cry really," explaining that the act of giving often makes him emotional. "Because just they thank God."
Assali started his food initiative as part of a Christian Syrian project and began reaching out to Berlin's needy thanks to help from his pastor.
The sign on his stand explains some of this in German. Part of it reads "We want to be a positive part in the German community," according to the Independent.
The project doesn't just feed the homeless. The goal is to help anyone in need.
"One Hungarian man told me that he has experience in computer fixing and I was able to connect him with someone to work with and now he got a job," Assali told the Independent through email.
The original Facebook post by Bü says Assali uses his own money to buy the food, which Buzzfeed said amounts to about 120 euros or roughly $141 per week.
He hasn't been able to find a job yet, but the German government supplies 359 euros ($506) to refugees, 143 of which is for personal use, explains the Wall Street Journal.
People on social media have lauded his efforts and generosity.

Bü first met Assali through the Sharehaus Refugio, an organization that helps people in need of a place to live, according to an interview she gave to a German magazine called Stern.
The Refugio has since thanked Bü for introducing him to the world with a Facebook post of its own.
"We both never imagined what this little Post could do, but we are happy that we did bring a little light into the world!" Bü says in the group's post.
In the comments she added that Assali feels overwhelmed by all the attention, but also very touched.
Assali told Buzzfeed that he wants to have a house to give back to the homeless and be "closer to this kind of people.
