Book: The Wife Between Us
Authors: Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen
A tense read, The Wife Between Us by Greer Hendricks and Sarak Pekkanen is a psychological thriller about friendships, marriage and relationships.
This is a tough review to write as I strongly feel that the best way to go into this book, because of its genre and storyline, is completely blind, not knowing anything about it.
I definitely don’t want to give even a hint of a spoiler and affect all the questions that the story raises to readers which adds to the suspense and the emotional roller coaster this book evokes.
I haven’t read anything by either of these authors but the combination of their work was fantastic.
The publisher’s description of the book is accurate – assume nothing.
The main protagonist is a woman whose wealthy, attractive husband left her for another woman and since their divorce is living with her aunt and working at Saks.
It’s the ultimate triangle, the jealous ex-wife Vanessa, the new fiancé Nellie, and the wonderful and charming Richard – well that’s perhaps how it may seem, then again maybe not.
Written from two perspectives, it allows readers to get to know Vanessa in the present and Nellie in the past.
Right from the beginning there are plenty of questions running round your mind as you jump from one twist to another.
On that note, I would give this book your full attention, and read it in a relatively short span of time to avoid having to back-track through pages to remind yourself who is talking at that point in the story.
The authors did a wonderful job with immersing the reader in the storyline and showing that nobody is totally who we think they are.
With each chapter your feelings toward each character will totally shift and change.
A definite must-read for those like me who love psychological thrillers – a genre that has certainly been popular among authors and filmmakers in recent years. Pick up a copy from Jashanmal in City Centre Bahrain or Seef Mall for BD4.100.
