MPs are insisting on the formation of a subsidies fund to help Bahrainis in need of support, despite the government’s efforts to block it for the last three years.
The proposal was first presented in parliament in 2016 after subsidies on meat, electricity, water and fuel were lifted as part of a series of austerity measures imposed by the government, but was shelved because MPs who served between 2014 and 2018 had reached a stalemate .
