THE race for the title in the Sixth West Asian Football Federation (WAFF) Women’s Championship is wide open, according to Bahrain head coach Khaled Al Harban.

The championship kicks off tonight, under the patronage of Bahrain Football Association (BFA) president Shaikh Ali bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, with two games.

Jordan take on the UAE at 4pm and at 7pm Bahrain clash with Lebanon, both at Muharraq Club stadium.

Speaking at a press conference yesterday, the Bahraini tactician acknowledged the strength and capabilities of defending champions Jordan as well as that of other participating teams such as the UAE, Palestine and Lebanon.

He added that hosts Bahrain are also well prepared for the competition, so everybody has a chance to claim the title, he added.

Al Harban thanked BFA president Shaikh Ali for providing the women’s national team the best facilities to train and prepare for the event. He also praised the efforts of BFA Women’s Committee president Shaikha Hessa bint Khalid Al Khalifa for her constant support.

Meanwhile, the tournament’s technical committee meeting was held yesterday. It was attended by Shaikha Hessa, BFA general secretary Hassan Ismail and other WAFF and BFA officials.

Bahrain’s next assignment will be on Wednesday against Palestine and then they take on the UAE on Sunday.
