A 2017 war film, Dunkirk, comes to the screen at Bahrain Cinema Club tonight at 7pm.
The film depicts the evacuation of Dunkirk during the Second World War and features a cast that includes Tom Hardy, Harry Styles, Jack Lowden and Fionn Whitehead, among others.
In May 1940, Germany advanced France, trapping Allied troops on the beaches of Dunkirk.
Under air and ground cover from British and French forces, troops were slowly and methodically evacuated from the beach using every serviceable naval and civilian vessel that could be found.
At the end of this heroic mission, 330,000 French, British, Belgian and Dutch soldiers were safely evacuated.
Directed by Christopher Nolan, the film was nominated for Best Film and Best Director at the British Academy Film Awards, the Golden Globe Awards and the Academy Awards. Additionally, it won several awards and nominations at different film festivals.
