We are now well into the daftest month of the year, January. This year is no exception as well as the normal epithet of Dry January, this year we also have its opposite of Ginuary we have Veganuary.
If you were to take any of these seriously it is enough to give you Janxiety but more likely to be just Jannoying.
I do not go in for any of this sort of nonsense. However in past years I used to be part of a group called the Fat Club based at the British Club. A number of us entered into a competition to see who could lose the most weight by percentage over the month.
There was a small entry fee and at the results lunch on the first weekend in February the biggest loser won all the cash and then had to pay for the lunch which generally consisted of enough pies, chips and sticky toffee pudding to put all the weight back on.
I normally start a fitness regime in January, and this year is no exception, but it is not part of the January madness no! It is because I normally go skiing in mid-February and if I am going to pay a lot of money to throw myself off a mountain then I am going to make sure I am fit enough to enjoy it.
I am not a great lover of exercise and it’s a real test of will power to get myself to the gym three times a week and on my bike the other days. But I do not want to be giving up skiing at lunchtime because I am tired. Believe me as soon as I get back it is full on sedentarianism and the couch for me again.
Although this year I am not so sure. You see I have lots of different aches and pains which I have put down to getting older and just have to put up with, as my body starts to break down.
Bruffen 600s have become my friend and they help me get through the day.
However, since I started on my skiing fitness regime, which in reality started early December, I have already reached a certain level of fitness. And lo and behold a lot of the pains have gone away.
I have not had to take a painkiller for a few days now, well apart from the other cause, hic!
And so maybe if I continue with a certain level of exercise ongoing I just might be able to reverse some of these old-age symptoms and put them off for a few years.
Hmmm maybe there is something in what the doctors are always banging on about.
