Abu Dhabi: The security authorities in Dubai blocked 2,920 fake social media accounts last year, up from 1,799 in 2017 and 1,899 in 2016.
General Department of Criminal Investigation and Investigation director Brigadier Jamal Salem Al Jallaf said that more than 500 accounts were removed in 2018 for impersonation, reported Khaleej Times.
A police statement revealed that the accounts of celebrities and famous people are more likely to face cyber-crimes or hacking than the regular ones.
The statement urged social media users to secure their accounts, and report any violations or insults they might face online.
