Del Toro’s The Shape of Water on screen...

A 2017 American romantic fantasy film, The Shape of Water, comes to the screen at Bahrain Cinema Club tonight at 7pm.

Directed by Guillermo del Toro it stars Sally Hawkins, Michael Shannon, Richard Jenkins, Doug Jones, Michael Stuhlbarg and Octavia Spencer.

Set in 1962 Baltimore, the film centres on Elisa, a mute, isolated woman who works as a cleaning lady in a hidden,

high-security government laboratory.

Her life changes forever when she discovers the lab’s classified secret – a mysterious, scaled creature from South America that lives in a water tank.

As Elisa develops a unique bond with her new friend, she soon learns that its fate and very survival lies in the hands of a hostile government agent and a marine biologist.

At the Academy Awards the film won the Best Picture, Best Director, Best Production Design and Best Original Score.

It was nominated for seven awards at the Golden Globes and won for Best Director and Best Original Score.

It was also nominated for 12 awards at the British Academy Film Awards, winning three, including Best Director.
