BAHRAIN Rugby Football Club (BRFC) ‘A’ upset defending champions British Club ‘A’ 22-17 in a match-up between two top teams in the 2018/2019 Bahrain Netball League.
The victors had a strong start in the contest and did well to hold on to their advantage the rest of the way.
They took an 8-2 lead at the end of the first quarter, which they turned into a 14-9 advantage at the half. A low-scoring third period finished with BRFC ‘A’ maintaining a five-goal advantage at 17-12, setting the stage for an evenly fought final quarter where the victors were able to seal the well-deserved win.
Goal defence Kelly Anne Hutton was named the Player of the Match for BRFC ‘B’. Her counterpart Bianca Jordaan was the top player British Club ‘A’, who are sponsored by Gulf Brands International.
Also claiming a fine win were sister squad BRFC ‘C’, who defeated British Club ‘B’ 18-11.
After finishing the first quarter tied at 3-all, BRFC ‘C’ pulled away from their opponents in the next two periods, going up 9-6 at the half and then holding British Club ‘B’ to just two goals in the third to power ahead 15-8. They cruised in the last canto en route to closing out the win.
Goal attack Sophia Lord was the Player of the Match for BRFC ‘C’, while goal shooter Dilhani was her team’s best.
Elsewhere, Secure Services Sri Lanka beat BRFC ‘B’ 35-10 with Centre Rasangika Herath and wing defence Charlie Axtell being named the Players of the Match for their respective sides, and Dilmun Club outplayed British Club ‘C’ 31-15 as centres Rama Salem and Debbie being the best performers for the opposing sides.
