MANAMA: Bahrain Development Bank (BDB) has appointed Mariam Safdar as the head of the compliance department.
The move makes her the first Bahraini female to occupy this role since BDB was established.
Congratulating Ms Safdar on her appointment, BDB Group chief executive Sanjeev Paul said the decision was in line with the bank’s strategic plan to invest in local talent and empower women in the banking sector.
“I am proud to have a Bahraini woman professional as head of compliance. Her extensive experience in compliance and other areas of banking together with her deep understanding of BDB make her the ideal candidate to head our compliance function.”
Ms Safdar has more than 14 years of experience in areas of compliance, risk management and credit review, having worked with many prestigious financial institutions.
She joined BDB in 2010.
Her qualifications include, a Bachelor’s degree in business management from University of Bahrain, a Master’s degree in business administration from NYIT, an Advanced Diploma in Islamic banking and an ICA International Diploma in governance, risk and compliance.
