Thousands of Saudi women have managed to obtain their driving licences over the past six months, the traffic authorities announced, according to Al Madinah.
According to latest statistics, the number of women holders of licences has exceeded 40,000 ever since the ban preventing them from driving was scrapped in June 2018.
The General Department of Traffic said that the number of female motorists has risen as more women opt to learn driving across Saudi Arabia.
Head of traffic department General Muhammad Al Bassami, released the updated figures during a meeting with officials, adding that 14 driving schools are currently under construction.
Despite a few cases of harassment, the striking majority of women drivers expressed delight, commending the community for its support.
