Al Najma defeated East Riffa 1-0 and Budaiya held off Malkiya 2-1 in ninth week matches of the Nasser bin Hamad Football Premier League at Khalifa Sports City Stadium in Isa Town last night.
Al Najma’s all-important goal was scored in the 57th minute by Ali Madan, who sent the ball into the right side of East Riffa’s goalkeeper Ibrahim Lutfallah.
East Riffa had a chance to equalise in the 80th minute when Sami Al Hussaini faced goalkeeper Anwar Taher, but Al Hussaini failed to tap in the goal.
In the other match, Budaiya scored a second half goal to overcome Malkiya.
Budaiya led the first half 1-0 after Ahmed Al Thuwaini scored in the 45th minute. Malkiya equalised three minutes after the interval through Ahmed Yousif. However, Brazilian Britto Rodrigues scored Budaiya’s second goal in the 57th minute to take his team to victory.
Budaiya are now in the seventh place with 11 points while Malkiya are eighth with nine points.
Al Najma moved up to third place with 16 points after their victory over East Riffa who are sixth with 12 points.
