Ahmed Merza scored an injury time goal to help Al Hidd hold Riffa to a 2-2 draw in a 10th week match of the Nasser bin Hamad Football Premier League at Bahrain National Stadium in Isa Town last night.
In other matches, Muharraq crushed Malkiya 6-2 while Al Hala and Budaiya drew 1-1.
Riffa lost the chance to grab a precious victory over Al Hidd even after scoring a late goal to lead 2-1. Al Hidd pulled off a stunning draw in the dying minutes.
The first half ended 1-0 for Al Hidd, with Mohammed Faris scoring within the first three minutes of the game.
Riffa equalised in the second half through a free kick by Kumail Al Aswad in the 50th minute. They made it 2-1 in the 88th minute through Adnan Fawaz.
However, Al Hidd’s Ahmed Merza snatched the equaliser in injury time.
Riffa continue to top the table with 21 points, while Al Hidd are in the sixth place with 13.
Equaliser
Later, the same venue witnessed another draw when Al Hala held Budaiya 1-1.
Budaiya scored in the 15th minute through Britto Rodriguez and Al Hala’s Rakan Mofleh netted the equaliser in the 32nd minute.
Al Hala remain in the ninth position with eight points and Budaiya are still in seventh place with 12.
Meanwhile, at Muharraq Club Stadium, Muharraq sealed a crushing victory over Malkiya.
Malkiya scored twice in the first half after Muharraq opened the scoring in the ninth minute through Ali Kamel.
Malkiya’s first-half goals were scored by Ahmed Yousif in the 23rd minute and Isa Al Barri in the 35th.
Muharraq roared back in the second half, scoring five goals. Ismael Abdullatif struck in the 73rd and 82nd minutes while Jamal Rashid scored in the 48th minute. Isa Moosa extended the margin in the 60th minute and Tijani Belaid nudged in the final goal in the 90th minute.
Muharraq are now just one point behind leaders Riffa while Malkiya remain in the eighth position with nine points.
East Riffa will take on Al Najma today at 4.55pm, followed by a match between Al Shabab and Manama at 7.30pm, both at Khalifa Sports City Stadium in Isa Town.
