Muscat: Two people living in Oman have died after contracting the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome-Coronavirus (MERS-CoV), according to Oman Observer.
The Ministry of Health earlier announced five people had been diagnosed with the viral disease.
"The patients are receiving necessary medical care at one of the hospitals," said the ministry in a statement.
It urged citizens and residents to comply with the preventive measures to control infection and to practise healthy habits when sneezing or coughing.
Symptoms of coronavirus patients are similar to any other respiratory infection, which include runny nose, cough, sore throat, and sometimes fever, said the ministry.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries announced that coronavirus in cattle and camels were examined and tested negative.
The ministry conducted sampling and follow-up of herds of cattle and camels at the homes of citizens suspected of contracting the disease. Laboratory test results showed the absence of the virus in animals.
