Muscat: Oman joined many other nations in marking World Cancer Day, which fell on February 4, Times of Oman reported.
Oman Cancer Association (OCA) formed a human ribbon, in an awareness operation which engaged 2,700 schoolchildren.
The event, held at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex, saw the participation of students from both public and private schools in Muscat.
The first human ribbon was organised in 2008 when OCA was still registered as the National Association of Cancer Awareness.
OCA president Dr Wahid Al Kharusi stressed the importance of the global event which draws attention to the rise in Oman of cancer cases such as breast cancer, colorectal cancer and lung cancer, especially, in cigarette smokers.
