THE Ministry of Health yesterday backed 2019 Bahrain Sports Day scheduled for Tuesday.
The event is being organised for the third successive year by Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC).
Representative of the Ministry of Health in the Organising Committee of the event Dr Wafaa Sharbatly said the ministry is currently preparing its own programme to be held on the Sports Day.
She said the ministry’s decision was in line with the initiative of His Royal Highness the Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa.
All employees in all ministries and government authorities will be given half-a-day off on the Sports Day.
Meanwhile, the Olympic Academy, in cooperation with the Media, Public Relations and Marketing Directorate of Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC), yesterday released leaflets outlining the benefits of walking to mark the 2019 Bahrain Sports Day.

Dr Abdulrahman Sadeq Askar, chairman of the organising committee, said that over 10,000 copies of the leaflets will be distributed.
The leaflets outline the benefits of exercise in preventing several diseases such as heart disease, diabetes and cancer, reducing high blood pressure, lowering cholesterol and improving many vital functions in the body.
The Organising Committee, meanwhile continued to receive applications from more government ministries - the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Housing, the Civil Service Bureau and the National Oil and Gas Authority.
The list of companies and private sector companies supporting the event include the Bahrain Aluminum Company (Alba) , Batelco, SuperSoccer, Graphite and the Bahrain Commercial Facilities Company.
Head of Information Technology Committee of Bahrain Sports Day, Wafa Qanati said interested entities can liaise with the IT Committee at econtent@boc.bh to guide them through registration process.
