Arab national jailed for blackmailing Gulf woman
Abu Dhabi: An Arab national was sentenced to three years in jail for cheating on an Arabian Gulf woman and conning her out of her money, according to Emarat Alyoum.
The Court of Cassation in Abu Dhabi handed down a AED500,000 fine to the Arab, who will be deported on serving his jail term.
He was charged with impersonating an Emirati national and giving false promises of marriage.
He then started blackmailing the woman and threatened to post her compromising photos on social media, forcing her to transfer AED700,000 to him from her account.
The inquiry revealed that the convict got acquainted with the victim on twitter and persuaded her into believing that he was a rich UAE national.
He then made false marriage promises and persuaded her to send him "intimate photos", which he used to blackmail her.
