Kuwait City: The authorities in Kuwait barred 515 citizens from marrying foreign women over the past nine years, according to Al Qabas.
A committee in charge of regulating marriage to non-Kuwaiti women approved only 21 per cent of requests to wed foreign women.
The panel, which was established in 2010, received a total of 1,202 requests to marry foreign women over the past nine years. Only 260 of those were approved.
It rejected most of the demands, citing security reasons, public interest and other miscellaneous causes.
Other citizens simply had a second thought and decided to drop their plans to marry non-Kuwaiti women.
The committee was established at the demand of the ministries of foreign affairs and justice to put constraints on such mixed marriages and protect Kuwait's social fabric.
