Sri Lanka Club, Bahrain, is hosting the Seventh Super Max8s, an eight-a-side cricket tournament, at Hunainiya Valley, Riffa , on Wednesday.
The event is being held under the patronage of Cricket Bahrain Association.
Unlike a traditional Seven-a-side cricket game, a Super Max match consists of a ‘Max Zone’, which is a marked area near the boundary line that would double the score of any ball entering it.
This tweak to the game adds to the unpredictability of a traditional seven-a-side match.
“Sri Lanka Club Bahrain has always looked to make its mark in the island with regards to sporting events. I would like to express my gratitude to Viva for being the title sponsors,” said Sri Lanka Club president Mohamed Muneer.
Sixteen teams split into four groups are in the fray. The top two teams in each group progress to the championship knockout while the bottom two play for the Plate Trophy.
The winners receive a prize money of $1,250 and the runners-up $750 while the Plate winners and runners-up get $500 and $250 respectively.
