Book: Lipstick and Lies
Author: Debbie Viggiano
I loved the Lipstick and Lies by Debbie Viggiano, which showcases motherhood, divorce, marriage, friendship and so much more.
Laugh out loud moments aplenty, it took a matter of days to speed through the pages of this brilliant story.
Admittedly, the storyline is somewhat predictable. However, the effective writing by Viggiano causes you to question yourself along the way, which makes for an exciting reading despite the fact you will likely have assumed the ending quite early on.
Cass is the lead character, a happily re-married woman who has children from her previous marriage and recently had another baby.
Add into the mix the fantastic banter with her best friend Morag coupled with Cass’s old neighbour Nell – who also has a newborn – and it makes for a heart-warming aspect to the storyline.
But here’s the kicker, there is a sly, manipulative woman on the scene, an old flame of Cass’s husband who seems to have psychological problems.
The way the events unfold really captures the imagination and watching these three women turn into detectives is great.
I love how the author so carefully portrays the emotion and atmosphere in the various situations that arise, it creates a vivid picture for readers.
Since finishing Lipstick and Lies, I learned that Viggiano released a book prior to this one that details the start of Cass’s relationship with her new husband Jamie, and the first encounter she has with the woman who behaves like something out of a psychological thriller.
You absolutely needn’t read that book first, as the second story still comes together nicely for first-time readers of Viggiano’s work.
However, I am eager to check out the predecessor called Stockings and Cellulite.
This book can definitely be categorised as a ‘chick-lit’ so if that isn’t your cup of tea, I wouldn’t invest in this title.
For me, however, I love that this genre is usually funny, realistic and relatable in some way, and this book is no exception.
I am positive that there are plenty of women out there who will find plenty to relate to with Cass, Morag and Nell and the dynamics between the three of them, with the added excitement of a little bit of crazy and tense moments dotted throughout.
I am definitely a new fan of Viggiano and intend to follow this author from here on out.
Loved her writing and love the book, so it’s a big thumbs up from me to get yourself a copy.
I downloaded mine from Amazon Prime Books, however, Lipstick and Lies by Debbie Viggiano is available at all major e-book stores for varying prices.
