Thousands of students and their parents recently attended the British School of Bahrain’s (BSB) international fair held at its premises in Hamala.
The fair was an extravaganza of food, music, culture and games for everyone who attended, the chairperson of the fair’s organising committee, Ellen van Manen-de Boer, said.
“It was a glorious spring day where the 89 nationalities represented at the school celebrated together in the true spirit of internationalism and intercultural understanding. It is events like these which help transform the students of today into the world citizens of tomorrow,” said group education director of Inspired, the UK group which owns the BSB, Dr Stephen Spurr.
Ms van Manen-de Boer praised the efforts of everyone who came together to make the event a great success.
“Without the support of our fantastic sponsors, including the Bahrain Institute of Banking and Finance, the Information and eGovernment Authority, the Royal Bahrain Hospital, Infonas, Tasheelat Car Leasing, Imtiaz for Her, Dr Rim Bogari Dental Centre and Al Areen Palace and Spa, we would not have been able to put together such a successful event,” she added.
“This is an annual event and is one of the highlights of the school year. It is a way for us as parents to give back to the school, as well as support charities as proceeds from the fair go to local charities and enhance the provision of education throughout the school.
“This was my first international fair at the BSB and I was simply blown away by the whole event. With nearly 100 different nationalities at the school, it was just about possible – wallet and appetite permitting – to shop and eat your way across the world,” said BSB executive director Jeff Smith.
The international fair, which for many years was held in the month of December, was held in March for the first time this year.
