The trending hashtag ‘Trashtag’ has taken over social media recently in a challenge inspiring people to go to locations littered in filth and pick it up, posting before and after pictures of their efforts online.
The challenge urges people to tidy up natural spaces and has seen pictures posted of beaches, parks and rivers cleaned. The original Trashtag idea had started in 2015 when outdoor clothing company UCO launched the #TrashTag project.
The post urged individuals to “make the world a better place” in an attempt to take the challenge globally. Photos of the challenge have emerged from countries around the world including Nepal, California and Belgium.
