Kuwait City: A plan to levy KD8 on each plane ticket for flights taking off from Kuwait has been frozen under parliamentary pressure, according to Al Qabas.
The General Directorate for Civil Aviation had announced that the fee would take effect from the beginning of April.
According to sources from the tourism and travel sector, the government was planning to reap KD60 million annually from the fee.
Last year, 7.380 million tickets were used by passengers who travelled abroad via Kuwait International Airport. The overall number of tickets is expected to continue growing.
The sources said that other GCC, Arab and foreign countries impose levies on plane tickets in exchange for services provided for companies and airline companies.
