Riyadh: A group of adventurers have succeeded in crossing the Empty Quarter on camels in 24 days, according to Akhbaar 24.
Seventy men and four women from Saudi Arabia, Germany and Japan took part in the Rakayeb trip, initially scheduled to last 26 days.
The Empty Quarter, also known as Rub' Al Khali, is the largest contiguous sand desert in the world.
Covering 650,000 square kilometres, the massive desert, which encompasses most of the southern third of the Arabian Peninsula, includes parts of Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Oman and Yemen.
They reached their destination to a warm welcome from a large crowd waiting for them.
They departed from the historic Ubar city on the Saudi-Omani border and arrived at Birin oasis to the north of the Empty Quarter.
