Riyadh: More than 70,000 Saudi women have so far succeeded in obtaining licences ever since Riyadh authorities lifted the ban on women driving in June 2018.
The statistics were released as Qassim province Amir Prince Faisal bin Mishaal opened a new women's driving school, according to Saudi Gazette.
Forty women driving instructors have been hired to work at the new facility, which was constructed on a plot covering 55,000 square metres at Al Qassim University.
Director General of Traffic Major-General Mohammed Al Bassami said that so far women in Saudi have proved to be good drivers as they haven’t been involved in violations that threaten public safety.
The General Directorate of Traffic is now operating a total of 65 driving schools across Saudi Arabia.
