Cairo: Egyptian Hosam Habib took to his Twitter account to defend his wife, singer Sherine Abdelwahab, who will undergo investigation on Wednesday (March 27) over comments deemed "offensive" during a recent concert in Bahrain, Elbalad reported.
He posted a video on his account, showing his wife singing for her country, Egypt.
"They question your patriotism but your sensibility is more precious than their hypocrisy, envy, hatred and sick souls. They believed a joke and doubted her sensibility as she was singing for her country," he said, expressing full solidarity with his wife.
Other artists, particularly Arabs, voiced their solidarity and support to Sherine, who was suspended from performing in any concerts pending investigation.
The Egyptian Musicians’ Union president Hani Shaker said in a statement to a TV channel that the "comments made by the singer represent a threat to Egypt’s national security".
The singer said during a recent concert in Bahrain: "Okay, here I can speak freely, because in Egypt anyone who speaks goes to prison."
A video that went viral on social media showed the singer making the controversial comments which caused an outcry in Egypt.
