Abu Dhabi: The Anti-Terror Quartet — UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Egypt — has objected to Qatar hosting of the 140th General Assembly of the IPU in Doha from April 6-10, as the latter had not responded to the Quartet’s demands of desisting support to terror.
The Arab Quartet submitted a joint statement to the General Secretariat of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, IPU, during the 139th General Assembly held in Geneva, which objected to Qatar's hosting of the IPU’s 140th General Assembly in Doha.
The Quartet announced that they would boycott the meeting in case it is held in Doha, unless the State of Qatar responds to the demands of the four countries to cease its support for terrorism and stop intervention in the internal affairs of countries of the region.
The Quartet further stated that Qatar has not responded to the just demands of the four countries and has continued its supportive policy for extremism, terrorism and interference in the affairs of the countries of the region.
The statement added, "We emphasize our non-participation in the General Assembly's meeting referred to above."
