BAHRAIN drag racing champion Ali Aryan set a new world record on way to winning the Mid-West Pro Mod Series on Friday in the US.
The event was part of the Outlaw Street Car Reunion held at Beech Bend Raceway Park in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
Aryan clocked 3.610 seconds at 207.98mph to set a new Roots Blower World Record ET and Speed while powering down the eighth-mile stretch.
He set the world record during the second of three qualifying runs in his blood-red, supercharged, ex-Jason Scruggs ’69 Camaro.
He sat out the third run knowing his time was enough for first place. It eventually was, and following the cancellation of Race Day due to poor weather conditions, Aryan secured first place overall for the meeting.
Aryan managed to beat by just two-thousandths of a second his closest rival Justin Jones, who clocked 3.612s at 208.46mph in a Brandon Pesz-tuned C7 Corvette.
“We knew we had a good position no matter what happened, but we are very happy to qualify number one,” Aryan was quoted as saying.
Excited
Aryan co-owns his Aryan Xtreme (AX) Motorsports team with brother Ahmad and close friend Hussain. They are supported by MP Performance in the US and AX in Bahrain.
“I’m very excited, very delighted, especially for being just the second time in the car and my second time racing in the US,” Aryan explained.
“I raced here last December in Bradenton, Florida, but the car is kept here in South Carolina with my good friend Lee White, who is also our crew chief, and with the support of Hank Jackson and Hameed Alsowumil, who have been really helpful in taking care of the car for me.
“Special thanks for my family and friends for their support.”
Classified behind Aryan and Jones in third place was Tommy Franklin in another ’69 Camaro. He clocked 3.644s at a speed of 203.98mph.
A total of 33 drag racers competed in the Pro Mod class.
