The second Bahrain Baby Games concluded yesterday in spectacular fashion at Isa Sports City’s Bahrain Volleyball Association hall in Riffa.
Attended by a capacity crowd, the closing ceremony saw all the participants collect their commemorative medals from representatives of the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC), the event organiser.
The event witnessed thrilling contests in four sports disciplines – basketball, athletics, football and gymnastics. The athletics events included competitions in spring run, hurdles and kids relay and were open for kindergarten children aged between three and five, who were guided by coaches Mishael Al Thawadi, Salem Khalifa and Emad Mohammed.
In basketball, young kids explored their free throw skills as the organising committee prepared nine mini net hoop backboard stands. The football competition featured penalty shoot-outs.
In the gymnastics contest, three-year-old nursery kids competed in the free body expression.
Staged for the second consecutive year, the Bahrain Baby Games was organised in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Labor and Social Developments, in an attempt to promote a culture of sports among children and develop their mental and physical abilities.
Around 1,029 children, including 563 representing 35 nurseries and 466 from 34 kindergartens, attended this year’s event, held at three sports federations’ halls – volleyball, sports for disabilities and table tennis – all located at Isa Sports City premises.
