THE inaugural Bahrain Amateur Open Golf Championship tees off tomorrow at Royal Golf Club at Riffa Views.
A total of 104 golfers representing 17 clubs and federations from across the region are competing in the two-day, 36-hole event, organised by Bahrain Golf Association (BGA).
The championship is an individual stroke-play competition with both gross and net divisions. It also acts as a qualifier for the 2019 King Hamad Trophy for local clubs.
Participants have been limited to golfers with a maximum handicap of 15.
The field is highlighted by former and current Bahrain national team players in addition to international golfers from Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
Former Bahrain national team players Nasser Yacoob, Hamad Mubarak Al Afnan and Abdulla Sultan are among the top contenders and they face a stiff challenge from the younger generation of players that include Bahrain’s Sultan Abdulla, Saudi’s Saud Al Sharif and the UAE’s Abdulla Al Qubaisi.
Platinum sponsors: Reza Hygiene. Gold sponsors: Banz Group. Silver sponsors: Blue Water Investment and Al Dhaen Contracting and Trading.
