In the interests of reducing risks from mosquitoes and other insects, there should be public advisories about reducing and sanitising standing water following rain.
People should sweep water from paved areas, balconies and other surfaces where puddles form, turn over plant saucers (trays under pots), or put something such as newspaper to wick the water out, and regularly treat other areas where water collects, with bleach or vinegar to kill mosquito larvae .
