Riyadh - Thousands of women have obtained their driving licences in Saudi Arabia in less than one year.
According to official statistics, 75,000 have got their licences ever since the ban on women’s driving was lifted on June 24, 2018.
In September 2017, The Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud issued royal decree announcing the end to the decades-long ban.
The overall number of women drivers is expected to reach 100,000 by the end of 2019.
Two new driving schools will open their doors within a month in Dammam, the Eastern province, and Najran. There are also plans to open 11 schools in various parts of Saudi Arabia.
