AL Saqr Al Abyadh defeated Al Fursan 3-1 to book a berth in the quarter-finals of the 12th Nasser bin Hamad Football Tournament at Khalifa Sports City Stadium in Isa Town
Cameroon’s Earnest’s scored two goals for the winners.
In another match, Al Nawayef hit six goals past Jurnas to cement their qualification hopes.
Two matches will be held today in Group 2.
In the first match, Batelco Gunners United take on Al Ahlam while Tylos lock horns with Al Fakhar in the second clash.
Batelco Gunners United are the favourties to top the group having won their first two games.
Al Fakhar, on the other hand, lost their first game but a victory in the second saw them revive their hopes to reach the quarter-finals.
Meanwhile, president of Bahrain Handball Association Ali Ishaqi said the success of Nasser bin Hamad Ramadan Sports Tournament was mainly duly to the direct support it receives from Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty for Charity Works and Youth Affairs and president of Supreme Council for Youth and Sports.
He said that holding the event for more than 10 years running reflects the keenness of players to compete in it.
“Shaikh Nasser’s directives and keenness to allow Bahraini youth from different age groups to participate in various games during this annual tournament contributed to widening the popularity of the tournament and increase its fans base,” said Ishaqi.
