Victorious and Suqoor Al Bahrain of Group 1 qualified for the quarter-final of the 5th Nasser bin Hamad Ramadan Sports Tournament “Nasser 12”.
They claimed victories against their respective opponents in their last games of the group stage on Sunday at Khalifa Sports City Stadium.
Victorious hit three past Dilmun 3-0 and kept a clean sheet enroute to progressing to the last-eight stage, while Suqoor Al Bahrain were made to sweat in their game against Al Asateer before pulling off a narrow 4-3 victory.
Group 1 entered this stage in a complicated situation with all the teams holding three points each.
Victorious put the score beyond their opponents’ reach in the first half thanks to goals from Abdullah Salah (5) and Hazaa Ali (26+45).
Two games will take place today as part of Group 2 at Khalifa Sports City stadium.
Winning and Forever will go face to face in the first match at 9pm, followed by the game between Nomas and Al Zaeem. Winning need a positive result to secure their qualification, while Forever have to win this game to book a berth in the last-eight stage.
Al Zaeem, on the other hand, also need a win to advance into the next stage. Likewise, Nomas have to win if they have to get a chance to advance to the next round.
Meanwhile, Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs and president of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, lauded VIVA Bahrain for their sponsorship of the tournament.
Shaikh Nasser said this would be a main factor on the success of the tournament and would promote its noble goals. He added that VIVA’s sponsorship would motivate the young players and acknowledges their talents, skills and abilities in football.
He underscored the existing cooperation and coordination between VIVA and the High Organising Committee.
VIVA Bahrain deputy chief of Government Affairs Shaikh Ziyad bin Faisal Al Khalifa said the tournament is a distinguished initiative by Shaikh Nasser to improve the Bahraini youth and sports movement.
He said the company has been very keen to support the event, pointing out that supporting it is part of VIVA’s social responsibility.
